"How do you over come over thinking?"

Hello my sweet family...

As i get into my new routine of dropping weekly blog posts for ya'll, i've been reading through my DM's on instagram to find different topics to write about and let you all in on some insight of me and my life as an independent song artist...

One of the questions I frequently get asked is just about overcoming anxiety and how i've overcome my negative thinking toward my goals with my music career...

The truth is...

I overthink A LOT...

I'm human as well with a lot on my mind all the time...

But I don't let this hold me back, and heres why...

It's HARD to build a music career from the ground up, but it's even HARDER to stay in a career path my whole life that I don't truly want to be in...

It's kind of like I tell my weight loss clients...

losing weight is HARD...

but what's even HARDER is staying overweight...

we will have negative thought forms ALL THE TIME...

But it's up to us to pick and choose which thoughts consume our life.

I've dreamed of making music my whole life and now it's finally unfolding in front of my eyes...

I have a college degree that I knew i'd NEVER use because I just always subconsciously knew that I was going to do something CRAZY with my life...

This is MY crazy.

Let me be 100% honest though and let you know that I STILL do this day have thoughts of "well maybe it would be easier for me to just go get a corporate job and then build my music career on the side"....

Anytime I have thoughts like this I let them go immediately because I KNOW that this is not something I want to do.

If I went and got a corporate job it would pull me away from being able to put my energy into my music and would absolutely slow down my music career...

Where focus GOES, energy FLOWS...

Aside from that, I spend time each morning upon waking up and i take time to journal, write out my daily affirmations, and close my eyes and just THINK about where I want my energy going into before I start the day. Building your dream life DOES require a disciplined approach and consistency...

This time I spend with myself every morning allows me to clear my head from any negative thought form and it's my favorite time of day. When I started doing it, it changed my life.

My name is ASKYE and I am walking proof that you can DO anything, you can BE anything if you put the right amount of focus and energy into it.

To answer the question of overcoming overthinking....

I DON'T.

But one thing I promise you is that i'm NEVER quitting. That's what seperates me from the rest.

I pray over anyone reading this that you DON'T let your negative thinking dicatate your whole life. Learn to let that sh** go and keep moving...

I would rather build the life of my dreams, or die trying than work a corporate job that would make me miserable for the rest of my life while THINKING about what it would be like to be a full time pop star.

This is it fam.

I'm human, I overthink...A LOT.

But I don't let it stop me from building this life.

HERE ARE 10 HABITS TO HELP YOU STOP OVERTHINKING YOUR LIFE...

1. Set Time Limits for Decisions

  • How it helps: By giving yourself a set amount of time to make a decision, you avoid endlessly replaying scenarios in your mind. This habit trains your brain to accept imperfection and encourages decisive action.

  • Action: Set a timer for 10–15 minutes when making a decision. Once the time is up, commit to your choice.

2. Practice Mindfulness

  • How it helps: Mindfulness keeps you anchored in the present moment, helping you avoid spiraling into “what if” scenarios about the future or obsessing over past events.

  • Action: Focus on your breathing or engage in grounding techniques (e.g., 5-4-3-2-1 exercise) to bring your attention back to the present.

3. Challenge Your Thoughts

  • How it helps: Overthinking often leads to distorted thinking. By challenging these thoughts, you gain clarity and reduce unnecessary worry.

  • Action: When you catch yourself overthinking, ask: “Is this thought based on facts? Is it helpful?” Replace irrational fears with realistic perspectives.

4. Break Tasks into Small Steps

  • How it helps: Large, overwhelming tasks often lead to overthinking. Breaking tasks into smaller, more manageable steps reduces anxiety and boosts productivity.

  • Action: List the first small action you can take for any task and focus only on that. Don’t worry about the big picture yet.

5. Set Boundaries on Negative Thought Time

  • How it helps: Overthinking can become a habitual pattern if left unchecked. Setting aside a specific “worry time” can help confine overthinking to a controlled space.

  • Action: Allocate 15-20 minutes a day to reflect on your concerns, then consciously move on to other activities when the time is up.

6. Use a Journal

  • How it helps: Writing down your thoughts can help you release mental tension and organize your mind. Journaling is a powerful tool to analyze patterns and gain perspective.

  • Action: Set aside 10 minutes each day to write freely about whatever is on your mind. Often, the act of writing clears up mental clutter.

7. Practice Gratitude

  • How it helps: Focusing on gratitude shifts your mind away from anxiety and negative thinking. It reminds you of the positive things in your life.

  • Action: Keep a gratitude journal and write down three things you are grateful for each day, no matter how small.

8. Get Moving

  • How it helps: Physical activity can help break the cycle of overthinking by releasing pent-up energy and lowering stress hormones.

  • Action: Take a brisk walk, stretch, or engage in any form of exercise that you enjoy. Even a short burst of movement can reset your mind.

9. Limit Information Consumption

  • How it helps: Constantly absorbing new information, especially from social media or news, can fuel overthinking and anxiety.

  • Action: Set boundaries for how much time you spend consuming news or social media. Designate tech-free zones or times during your day to disconnect.

10. Seek Support or Talk it Out

  • How it helps: Talking to someone you trust helps externalize your worries, allowing you to see them from a fresh perspective and gain clarity.

  • Action: Share your thoughts with a friend, family member, or therapist. Sometimes, simply verbalizing your concerns can help you stop overthinking.

By consistently practicing these habits, you'll start to shift away from overthinking toward a more relaxed and focused mindset. It takes time, but these small steps can lead to big changes in your mental and emotional well-being.

I hope this helps :)

We are all in this together.

I believe in you. Now its time for YOU to believe in YOU.
